{also} and VGLRL Joint Human Rights Consultation Submission{also} and the VGLRL strongly support federal protection of human rights through the enactment of a specific, broad-based human rights instrument. As set out in the submission document, while we recognise that Australia is a relatively robust democracy that already ensures the protection of a range of rights through various means, and that there have been significant advances in the recognition of many rights of relevance to GLBTIQ communities in recent years, we believe that significant gaps in human rights protection continue to exist for our communities in a range of important areas. {also} and the VGLRL believe that a national human rights instrument can achieve a number of crucial outcomes for GLBTIQ people in Australia, as well as the community at large.
