October 2010 - Metamorphisis launch

The {also} Foundation through the ‘Take care {out} there’ project was proud to support the launch of a new theatre collective ‘Metamorphis’. From the outset Metamorphis' has pledged it’s work will incorporate representations of queer community social and ethical issues through performance, including on the occasion of the launch, those of sexual health. Around 85 people attended the launch, and all attendee’s where given bag’s which contained safe sex packs and information on safe sexual practice.

Two performers on the night, Kaye Sera and Dean Arcuri, effectively incorporated positive sexual health messages into their performance pieces.  Sera signing a song about STD’s and STI’s, and Arcuri’s set had a kinky twist and contained messages about sexual practice using quirky lyrics such as ‘To sir with glove’.
Media coverage for The Launch Party was spread across both queer and mainstream press, most notably on Joy 94.9, SStar, 3rrr and The Age. Viral marketing was also implemented through web based listings, e-bulletins and facebook.
The new theatre collective were able to raise just over $1000, going towards the costs of the night and Metamorphis Theatre Companies first production in December. The auction that took place had two prizes, a print from Bad Behaviour Publishing, which sold for $200 and was bought by The Glasshouse Hotel. The second prize, dinner date with Dean Arcuri, sold for $100; David Hunt (JOY 94.9) hosted the auction.
Congratulations’ go out to ‘Metamorphis’ - {also} wishes them good luck with the venture well into the future.
